This design was created in collaboration with TSA as part of a limited design competition for Hull Citycare. Hull Citycare’s brief was to create an Integrated Care Centre together with 40k sq ft of commercial office space. The chosen site was on the corner of Albion Street and Story Street. One of the key challenges for the design was the need to incorporate the commercial space requirements within a predominately 3 storey context. The Listed Georgian terrace on the opposite side of Albion Street was particularly attractive. Our response was to create a tiered building form with an elegant solid base that reflects the surrounding scale and character, and a more ephemeral glazed tier above that reflects the sky. The two highly sustainable buildings had very different internal layouts; the ICC needing to be designed to specific space requirements of the various healthcare operations, and the office space needing to be designed with ultimate efficiency and flexibility.
