Project Information

Son Gual

Living Spaces

This project was developed as a collaboration with JAMM architects. Son Gual is a small settlement to the East of Palma, where land has been identified for the future development of a community of large individual houses and central ‘club house’ that provides a social and recreational heart to the scheme.

The prototype dwelling explored the concept of a continuous landscape between the house and garden, and the need to provide occupants with natural shade at different times of day. The strong modern building elements are formed in concrete, to utilise its thermal mass and fluidity.

This strength of form is complimented by the finer detail of the shutters that rotate to optimise shade or daylight, depending on the time of year and individual preferences. The texture of the shutters is designed to reflect the delightful patterns of Mallorcan textiles.
