Edinburgh is the last capital in Europe and the last major city in the UK without an indoor arena. The LLD team had been looking for several years at developing an arena within the Edinburgh city limits on three separate sites. In late 2017, LLD joined in a partnership with Midlothian Council, the authority immediately bordering the City of Edinburgh. It was immediately obvious that Midlothian share our entrepreneurial and creative vision, and progress was fast.
Birmingham-based NEC Group has teamed up with Lothian Leisure Development (LLD) for a £40m indoor arena on the outskirts of Edinburgh.
The pair are planning an 8,000-seat venue at Straiton in Midlothian which will also include conference, retail and leisure space, along with a cinema and two hotels.
